Asian Queer Cinema

All about Asian queer cinema.
Thank you all new followers! Sorry for my recent inactivity on this blog. I will resume posting stuff once this term ends. In the meantime, I would like to ask you to take a minute or two to read this iconography. It’s about a cross strait service between Taiwan and China and why people are protesting it. In Girlfriend Boyfriend, there is a scene where a guy and a girl were sitting at a plaza among other protester demanding for democratization in Taiwan. The guy said to the girl, “go to sleep now. when you wake up, Taiwan will never be the same.” This is exactly how I’m feeling right now, but whereas in the movie they see a bright future ahead of them, I see uncertainty since I don’t know when the police are going to do to the students occupying the legislature. Although the protesters managed to stay after March 21st, our government still hasn’t given us any solid response regarding our demand. We just want to get the words out to let the government know that the world is watching us, and if they make any violent move there will serious consequences. (source)

A film which quite openly deals with male homosexuality. And obviously no one of the three characters wants to be lonely. Their emotions rotate around a center of confusion, of which the individuals involved can’t seem to find a way out even towards the end.

Theme song from The Love of Siam

If I said that this song is made for you, would you believe it?
It’s probably not melodious, not affectionate, not beautiful like other songs.
I want you to know that if there’s no love, you can’t write a love song.
But for you, my dear, do you know? I wrote it easily.

You’ve probably heard hundreds and thousands of love songs
that’s probably impressive
but with a similar meaning altogether, but if you listen to this song,
a song that’s written simply for you.
For you to understand the meaning of it, our hearts will then have a connection.

Let it be a song on our pathways that consist only voices of you and me.
Together as long as possible.
As the meaning is told in a poetry that as long as there’s love naturally there’s hope.
Means whenever your love shines through the heart, I have a goal.

There is a lot of facts found in love,
and in the past I used the time for the sake of finding the meaning.
But soon, I’d just know it, whenever you are near me,
That if life’s a rhythm, you are as good as the words that is melodious and touching to the heart.

Let it be a song on our pathways that consist only voices of you and me.
Together as long as possible.
As the meaning is told in a poetry that as long as there’s love naturally there’s hope.
Means whenever your love shines through the heart, I have a goal.

There’s a pathway for us to walk side by side and there are voices of you and me.
There’s a pathway for us to walk side by side and there are voices of you and me.

Watching this movie. It’s a story of two boys growing up together and falling in love. The movie is not only about their relationship, but also about how they deal with their families when it comes to death and separation.

P.S. I really like the music in the film.
